I’m Kayla.
I’m 21 years old, I’m a feminist, and I just graduated
college.
This is me on my 20th birthday.
Turning 20 was weird for me; my whole life 20 years old
seemed so far away, and being in your 20s made you a legitimate adult who knew
everything and who had everything together.
Unfortunately, that’s not how that works.
Adulthood doesn’t really come with an instruction manual:
you just reach it and are let loose on the world to figure everything out on
your own. Life doesn’t just hand you a serious relationship, a home and a
career… as it turns out, a lot of those “standard-issue” pieces of life are
optional, and for some people, they aren’t available at all.
So I’m stuck here trying to figure out what I’m
supposed to be doing with my life.
Hopefully Growing Parsley will help provide some answers to
the question of what growing up actually looks like, and maybe you’ll be able
to resonate with some of my experiences. I believe that as a writer, it’s my
responsibility to lend my voice to people in similar situations, so hopefully
this blog will be insightful, honest, and perhaps revelatory about what it
means to grow up.
